Man A attacks man B on a narrow bridge, brandishing a knife and yelling, I will kill you! You have no right to exist. B fights for his life and the struggle goes on, looking like it won’t end soon. Traffic in both directions is stopped and people get out of their cars and look on. Most are on B’s side and cheer him on and encourage to fight. With time some get tired of waiting, however, and want to go on with their lives. B, they yell, for God’s sake, give in! We can’t stand here forever. Try to find a compromise. Let him have one of your arms.
What should B do? Should he follow his supporters’ advice? The answer is not an obvious yes, especially since A will try to kill him later anyway, and he, B, will then be in a weaker position to defend himself.
