On September 9-10, the 17th meeting of the Yalta European Strategy (YES), “Ukraine for the Protection of our common Freedom,” was held in Kyiv, with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, in attendance.
He said that Europe now must support Ukraine in the war with Russia. It should be military, economic, and political support, including help to survive the winter.

“We favor starting negotiations between Ukraine and the European Union, he said. “I am convinced that after the victory, Ukraine will become one of the most powerful European nations after such a difficult experience.”
Levits also noted that there is no need to push Ukraine to compromise with the enemy because real peace can come only based on specific international values and international law.
“European society should support Ukraine to contribute so that these circumstances can be overcome. This is our common burden. This is the price for our freedom. This is our contribution to Ukrainian freedom,” the president noted.
