An agent of the Russian special services has been detained during a special operation in Odesa. The perpetrator collected intelligence, including information about senior figures in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
He turned out to be a Ukrainian citizen, the former head of criminal intelligence of the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (known as the UBOP, disbanded in 2015), of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

“The culprit collected intelligence, including data regarding the leaders of the SBU. The agent was also interested in classified information regarding officials and veterans of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the results of investigations of high–profile cases,” the SBU has reported.
The agent transferred the information he collected to Moscow – to the personnel officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Yeremin.
Russian occupiers use obtained information to identify “potential targets” among the Ukrainian security forces and conduct sabotage or special operations to either discredit or recruit them.
The Russian agent moved to Odesa after being dismissed from the Ulrainian police force in 2014. He joined the Russian special services because of his pro-Kremlin views, which he expressed to former law-enforcement colleagues.
According to the counterintelligence department of the SBU, Russia recruited him recently, in June 2022.

SBU investigators have informed him of the charge of high treason and a court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention.
