Yuriy Lutsenko, former prosecutor general of Ukraine, has been appointed by top general Valery Zaluzhny as the commander of an attack-drone platoon, Larysa Sarhan, Lutsenko’s spokesperson, reported on social media.
“By order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine dated Feb. 20 2023, Captain Yuriy Vitaliyovych Lutsenko was appointed platoon commander of attack unmanned aerial vehicles of a company of strike unmanned aerial vehicles of military unit No… of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Sarhan wrote on Feb. 22.

Currently stationed in Bakhmut, Lutsenko has previously served in the Territorial Defence Forces of Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and on the Kherson front. He has been serving in Bakhmut and Soledar for over three months and was recently promoted to the rank of captain.
Lutsenko twice held the position of Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine (2005-06, 2007-10) and was also a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada twice.
He held the position of Prosecutor General from 2016 to 2019.
To accommodate his appointment by then President Petro Poroshenko, changes were made to the legislation. A citizen of Ukraine can now hold the post of prosecutor general without a higher degree in law.
