Residents of occupied Melitopol are urged to leave before winter. Ivan Fedorov claimed that the city hasn’t had access to gas for almost a month, whilst also claiming that Russian reports about a pipeline being constructed from the coastal town of Berdiansk are untrue.

Fedorov ultimately urged residents to flee to Ukrainian-controlled territory.

According to recent reports by local authorities, the city has been subjected to weeks of ferocious Russian shelling, with as of recently, at least 5,000 residents killed.

Melitopol, is the second largest city in Zaporizhzhia Oblast (region) after its capital, Zaporizhzhia, has been a major battleground since the war’s inception. It was part of Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine’s southern offensive.

Melitopol then became occupied by the Russian military after the city fell.

Melitopol City Council declared on March 13 that, “The occupying troops of the Russian Federation are trying to illegally create an occupation administration of the city of Melitopol”.

Also in March, the Ukrainian parliament asserted that Ivan Fedorov had been abducted by armed men working for the Kremlin.

To free Ivan Fedorov and put an end to the occupation of the city, thousands of Ukrainians demonstrated in the streets of Melitopol during the time.
