Two plots of land in the Lviv region, worth roughly half a million dollars, were illegally transferred by the ex-head of a local land management department, whose name hasn't been revealed yet, to a company controlled by Oksana Marchenko, the State Security Service and Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine reported.

The official, who has illegally transferred the plots of land to Marchenko, has already been accused of abuse of power and falsifying documents. Marchenko is the wife of Viktor Medvedchuk, the most prominent former pro-Russian politician in Ukraine.

On Feb. 18, 2022, less than a week before the full-scale attack on Ukraine began, Marchenko was reported to have fled Ukraine into Belarus by car.

Viktor Medvedchuk, former leader of Ukraine’s pro-Russian party, Opposition Platform – For Life, and close friend of Vladimir Putin, was arrested in April 2022 by Ukrainian special services. He was charged with treason and disclosing state secrets. In September 2022, he was exchanged for Ukrainian POWs and then stripped of Ukrainian citizenship.

Shortly after Medvechuk’s arrest, Marchenko appeared in a press conference from Moscow, asking President Volodymyr Zelensky to free her husband.

Marchenko had already been accused of financing Russian occupation authorities. The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine imposed sanctions on her and her husband, and froze their assets in February 2021.
