“We have information that Russia is stepping up efforts to launch strikes against Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and government facilities in the coming days,” the official noted.
“Given Russia’s track record in Ukraine, we are concerned about the continued threat that Russian strikes pose to civilians and civilian infrastructure,” said the U.S. official.
The statement was based on downgraded U.S. intelligence, according to the report.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the Main Intelligence Department of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry has called on Ukrainians to be especially cautious on Independence Day over the heightened risks of missile strikes and provocations on the part of Russia.
The Interior Ministry urged Ukrainians not to ignore air raid alerts on August 24.
The Strategic Communications Department of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said Russia was amassing around Ukraine’s borders and in the occupied areas a large number of launchers for S300 anti-aircraft guided missiles, which have currently been used by invasion forces as surface-to-surface weapons.
