One of Kyiv’s newest and most popular panoramic sites is the glass bridge below the Arch of Freedom, overlooking the Dnipro River. Ironically, that Arch of Freedom was once called the “Friendship of Peoples” monument – meaning Russia and Ukraine – although Kyivites always referred to it simply as “the Yoke.”

On October 10 – during the first massive missile attack against the capital since the Russians had to retreat from the Kyiv region – a cruise missile hit below the pedestrian and bicycle bridge. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and only some parts of the structure were damaged.

The Kyiv City Council announced today that an online auction will be held on June 2, where there will be an opportunity to buy a fragment of the Kyiv Glass Bridge that survived the impact of the Russian missile.

“Kyiv persevered. Ukraine will stand and win. This souvenir is not just a fragment of a bridge, it is a symbol of the resilience of the people of Kyiv and all Ukrainians,” said Petro Olenych, the head of the digital transformation of Kyiv and deputy head of the City Council.

The starting price will be Hr.10,000 ($270). All funds collected from the auction will be used to support a separate rifle battalion for the city of Kyiv.

Aspiring owners of this unique souvenir can make a bid through a charity online auction in the state system, Prozorro.Prodazhi, here.
