At least one person has died and several others have been injured in a “massive” Russian drone attack on Kyiv, the third aerial assault on Ukraine’s capital in 24 hours.

Debris from intercepted drones fell in several residential areas of the city with one multi-story building evacuated after being set ablaze.

“One person died, three were injured. The two upper floors are destroyed, there may be people under the rubble,” Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram.

He earlier said a 27-year-old woman in the same area of Holosiivskyi had been hospitalized with “moderate” injuries.

“Massive attack! Stay indoors!” Klitschko added. Falling debris caused a fire at a house in the city’s southern Darnytskyi district and three cars in the centrally located Pechersky district were also up in flames, Kyiv’s military administration said.

Air raid sirens sounded in the capital just after 2 a.m. Kyiv Post reporters in the center of the city heard the distinctive buzz of the engines of the Iranian-made Shahed kamikaze drones flying overhead followed by a series of explosions both nearby and far away.

The attack lasted nearly three hours with the drones – and the explosions as they were intercepted – coming throughout. According to preliminary data, more than 20 drones were destroyed in the Kyiv area.

The latest attack was the third in 24 hours following an overnight attack the previous night and a daytime ballistic missile attack on Monday morning.

“The cure is not for days, but for hours, such is the current density of attacks on Kyiv by the Rashists,” Sergiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s city administration, said on Telegram.

“In the last 24 hours the enemy, the enemy has carried out three attacks. Moreover, the enemy is constantly changing weapons for attack. After the combined missile-drone attack, and then the ballistic, the aggressor used exclusively UAVs.
