Three people including an 11-year-old girl and her mother have been killed in the latest overnight aerial attack by Russia against Kyiv.

Ten others were injured.

“The first day of summer. Children's Day. And the ruscists launch another attack on the capital and kill again! They kill Ukrainian children,” said Serhiy Popko, Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

Air raid sirens sounded in the capital shortly before 3 a.m. Kyiv Post reporters in the center of the city heard the sound of incoming missiles followed shortly after by the sounds of air defenses intercepting them.

A series of around 10 loud explosions could be heard above the city in quick succession.

According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russia fired 10 Iskander ballistic missiles during the attack, all which were intercepted and destroyed.

“In the Dniprovsky district: two people were injured.” Previous official reports had said two children were killed in the strikes.

Pictures posted on social media showed windows blown out in a clinic and in a nearby apartment building.

Today is Children's Day in Ukraine but Kyiv officials announced early on Thursday morning that all planned events had been cancelled in light of the ongoing attacks.

"It is international children's day. At night, Russia again killed a child in Kyiv," said Andriy Yermak, chief of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's office.

"Since 2014, the terrorist country has been committing crimes against little Ukrainians. From February 24, 2022, no one has any doubts - this is a real genocide."

The all clear was given just after 4 a.m.
