Kyiv repelled more than 30 missiles and drones during yet another overnight attack from Russia early on June 2, city authorities have said.

Two people – an 11-year-old and a 68-year-old – were injured and five residential buildings were damaged, presumably from falling debris.

"All 15 cruise missiles and 21 attack drones were destroyed," Ukraine's Air Force said.

The latest salvo against the capital is the sixth in six days and comes after a month in which the Kremlin has dramatically increased the rate of attacks with some 20 happening during May alone.

“The terror of Kyiv with air attacks continues,” Serhii Popko, the head of the city military administration, said.

“In the last six days, the rashists have already carried out the sixth airstrike against the city! And every time the enemy changed weapons.”

Preliminary reports suggest the latest attack was combined, with Russia using drones and cruise missiles at the same time. Air raid sirens sounded in the capital just before 2 a.m.

Tu-95MS strategic bombers likely fired Kh-101/155 cruise missiles from the area of the Caspian Sea with Shahed loitering munitions attacking Kyiv from different directions.

Kyiv Post reporters in the center of the city heard some 15 explosions during the early hours of Friday morning, but they were far more distant than in previous attacks.

According to authorities, all explosions were air defenses intercepting missiles and drones. The all clear was given just after 4:30 a.m.

“Our air defenses are just titans,” Popko added. “According to preliminary information, more than 30 air targets of various types were detected and destroyed by air defense forces and means in the airspace over and around Kyiv.”
