The first annual Panama Ukraine Business Forum took place on June 29 in Panama City. Its objective was the promotion of bilateral business partnerships between the two countries.
The event was organized under the leadership of Nicolas Vukelja, President of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce,with support from PRO-PANAMA, the Authority for Investment Attraction and Export Promotion.In partnership with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the European Business Association, leading experts considered avenues to promote business initiatives, investments, and bilateral trade relations between Panama and Ukraine at the personal and government level. Kyiv Post was involved as the official Ukrainian Media Partner.
Panama is one of the 102 United Nation states that has consistently voted in favor of all General Assembly resolutions aimed at stopping Russian aggression in spite of the fact that its local economy was forecasted to be hit by Russia’s war. Already in March of this year, experts warned the amount of cargo passing through the Panama Canal would shrink during this fiscal year.

Vice Foreign Minister Vladimir Franco, conveyed a fraternal greeting to the Ukrainian people on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Janaina Tewaney Mencomo in his welcoming speech. He described the scope of the relations between the two nations emphasizing Panama’s continuing support of Ukraine during the war. He affirmed that Panama remained in favor of respecting Ukraine's sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity and would continue to do so in all multilateral fora.

The official stressed that, despite the relatively fledgling bilateral relationship between Panama and Ukraine, high-level meetings have been held over the last 30 years in which his country has reiterated its commitment to the universal fight against drugs, maritime piracy, and had organized two Political Consultation Mechanisms for the benefit of a better understanding between the two peoples.
Franco emphasized that the history and evolution of foreign relations between nations is a rich tapestry woven from the threads of diplomacy, conflict, trade and cooperation; and that, as we move forward, we must learn from the lessons of the past, accept the complexities of the present, and strive for a future in which states can work together harmoniously.
