Russian military aircraft conducted a pre-dawn coordinated strike against non-military targets, dropping two guided aerial bombs that hit a kindergarten and surrounding residential structures in the city of Kherson. Six people were injured in the attack which took place on Ukraine’s National Flag Day.
The aerial attacks took place around 4:00 a.m. on Aug. 23 during the yearly celebration.

Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson regional military administration, via Telegram, posted that “Kherson experienced airstrikes by the Russian military. The resulting fires were swiftly contained thanks to the efforts of firefighters.”
Following the attack six people suffered injuries. Among them was a 22-year-old man who required a transfer to a medical facility, while others received immediate on-site medical attention.
The regional prosecutor’s office confirmed that Russian troops made their bombing run toward a kindergarten building, employing a guided aerial bomb. The adjacent apartment buildings were within the zone impacted by the ensuing blast wave.
On the same morning, Russia launched an artillery assault on the heart of Kherson. This offensive inflicted damage upon residential dwellings, shops, power lines, and a gas pipeline.
After the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ (AFU) successful liberation of the right bank of the Kherson region last fall, Russian troops have undertaken a relentless daily barrage on the area, including the city of Kherson. The Russians have used a formidable array of heavy weaponry, aviation assets, and drones in these assaults.

According to Prokudin, on Aug. 22, Russian troops executed an astounding 72 shelling incidents within the region, unleashing a total of 364 shells propelled by mortars, artillery, tanks, Grad rockets, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Of these, 27 shells were aimed at Kherson city itself.
Russian forces targeted residential neighborhoods across the region, as well as pivotal industrial sites such as plants, factories, and other enterprises. The attacks extended to critical infrastructure facilities and hospitals within Kherson, encompassing a commercial building and a vital infrastructure installation situated in the Beryslav district.
In the Aug. 22 Russian onslaught, one individual lost their life and five others were injured.
