Mykolaiv has been shelled every day for several weeks. The number of missiles fired at the region exceeds what its air defenses can deal with. The Mayor of Mykolaiv has therefore advised citizens to leave the city to save their own lives. Most of the 230,000 residents currently living in Mykolaiv — about half of the pre-war population – are elderly.
“The number of missiles being fired at the southern city per day, far exceeds what our air defenses can deal with,” the Mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevych, said on July 19.

“The city has been shelled every day for several weeks. This means that it is better to leave the city to save yourself,” he added.
Earlier, Senkevych said that Russian troops used cluster munitions during a bombing of Mykolaiv.
The head of the Mykolaiv regional council, Hanna Zamazeyeva, reported that on July 19, the Russian troops shelled residential infrastructure in the region. As a result, two civilians were injured. She also reported that on the previous day, 29 people were injured in shelling attacks.
According to Zamazeyeva, all the injured were taken to medical facilities and received the necessary assistance. She noted that 329 injured citizens in total had been send to local hospitals and another 94 had received outpatient care following attacks by the invaders.
On the night of July 18, the Russian invaders carried out a massive missile strike. A total of 12 S-300 missiles were fired at Mykolaiv and its environs. According to the mayor, the occupiers fired on the suburban infrastructure and residential and industrial areas of the city.
