Iran reportedly intends to send Russia Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar missiles to support Moscow’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Washington Post reported on Sep. 18 that Tehran sent representatives to Moscow to finalise the deal, adding the surface-to-surface missiles to a deal that already appeared to have delivered Iranian combat drones to Russia.

A recent Ukrainian counteroffensive forced Russian forces to retreat from areas of territory they had taken since the invasion started in February. Following a sustained barrage on Ukrainian cities last week, Washington believes Russia is running low on precision-guided missiles.

The officials, who spoke on the basis of anonymity, said “Iran was getting ready to send missiles to Moscow with ranges of 300 km and 700 km, respectively, including the Fateh-110 and Zolfaghar.”

The Mohajer-6 and Shahid-136 have reportedly already been delivered to Russia by Iran. Although Iran claims it hasn’t sent any military hardware to Russia, several images of both types of drones have surfaced from Ukraine.

According to Ukraine’s Center for National Resistance, Russian troops in Russia-occupied Kherson Region and Russia-annexed Crimea have reportedly received training from Iranian military personnel on how to use the Shahid-136 drone.

The Iranian instructors were based, according to the Ukrainian government, in the Crimean town of Dzhankoi, Hladivtsi in Kherson Region, and Zalizniy Port on the Black Sea.
