Mykolaiv is without water according to the municipal agency Mykoliavvodokanal on Facebook. Before, citizens of Mykolaiv got water from the pipeline, but it greatly exceeded the average level of salinity and hardness.

“There was an accident at the water intake from the Dnipro-Buzky estuary, and, therefore, water won’t be supplied to the city at all. How long will it take to carry out repair work? Now, this issue is being determined by specialists of the Mykolaivvodokanal enterprise. Most likely, the repair will take more than one day,” the Facebook post reads.

The specialists added that the accident did not occur due to hostilities, so they will do everything possible to restore the water supply as soon as possible.

According to the Mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, Mykolaiv citizens have a problem with drinking water. On April 12, Mykolaiv was left without a centralized water supply after the water main that pumped water from the Dnipro River in the Kherson region to the city was damaged by shelling. The length of this pipeline is 73 kilometers. Since then, Mykolaiv citizens haven’t had drinking water at all. They have gotten drinking water from underground wells. In fact, local authorities have distributed it to people in trucks, barrels, and so on.

In the middle of May, it was partially restored, and now non-potable water is supplied to the apartments of Mykolaiv residents, which has exceeded the average level of salinity and hardness.

The Cabinet of Ministers allocated 56 million hryvnias to Mykolaiv to restore the centralized water supply.

“A month later, we connected, built a pipeline, and took water from the Pivdenny Buh River, on which the city of Mykolaiv stands. But the problem is that the quality of this river and the water in it does not meet the standards,” reported Oleksandr Sienkevych on June 24.

“And, in fact, today, after being purified by our systems, the water remains salty, with a taste of salt. We cannot equalize two parameters. It is softness and saltiness. Because of these parameters, we actually have non-potable water. We serve it around the clock. People can use it to wash dishes, do laundry, and take a shower, but it cannot be drunk,” added Oleksandr Sienkevych.
