The decisive offensive carried out by the Ukrainian army has put an end to Russia’s attempt to annex Ukrainian territories. Pseudo-referendums scheduled for September 11 in Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Luhansk Regions were cancelled.

Ukrainian troops launched an active offensive in different fronts on September 9, which led to about 2,500 square kilometers and dozens of villages being liberated in the space of just a few days. Balakliya and the logistically important center of Kupyansk were also freed. Russian troops were encircled in Izyum, which resulted in hundreds of Russians being captured.

At the same time, the Ukrainian army also advanced in the Luhansk direction. According to the governor of Luhansk Region, Serhiy Haidai, the Ukrainian flag is now flying again in Kreminna and Svatove (Luhansk Region). There were battles for Lysychansk and Severodonetsk, which Ukrainian troops were forced to leave in June.

Several villages have also been liberated in the Kherson direction. By September 11 it became clear that no Russian pseudo-referendums scheduled for that date would be taking place.

This powerful offensive by Ukrainian troops came as a complete surprise to Russia, with cities that the Russians fought for months being liberated in just a couple of days.

Yegor Kholmogorov, blogger, commentator, and one of the most radical Russian chauvinists, said that Russia has been humiliated as never before. The “second army of the world” fled in panic, leaving lots of weapons, ammunition, supplies, and equipment. The Armed Forces of Ukraine captured so many Russian war prisoners that it had a problem with their detention and logistics.
