On March 14, the Danish government announced further support to Ukraine to the tune of 7 billion Danish kroner ($1 billion), following the approval of almost all political parties in parliament.

A statement from the Ministry of Finance announced that a proposal to provide further support to Ukraine had passed with 159 of 179 members of parliament voting in favor. “The government has agreed to establish a fund for Ukraine with a total value of around 7 billion kroner ($1 billion) in 2023,” the statement said.

The aid package will consist of three elements: 5.4 billion kroner towards military aid, 1.2 billion towards civilian aid and 0.4 billion to support business initiatives aimed at reconstructing Ukraine’s critical infrastructure.

In addition, the Danish Government announced that it will allocate funds internally from 2024 to 2027 to compensate for the costs of the military aid it has given to Ukraine in 2022 and 2023.

Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen told reporters that the aid package was “largely a reflection of the wishes of Ukraine, which in addition to military and the humanitarian aid are now also about reconstruction.”

He added that “We can’t wait for the last shot to be fired.”
