Kyiv’s curfew is set to be shortened by an hour from March 26, according to a report from the Kyiv City Military Administration's (KCMA) press service on Friday.

Currently in place from 23:00 to 05:00, the new restrictions will last from 00:00 to 05:00.

The head of the administration, Serhii Popko, said that the process for changing the length of the curfew in Kyiv is currently underway and was made possible through the implementation of new security measures.

The decision comes after public demand for a curfew reduction was voiced through petitions, appeals from private enterprises, state institutions, and residents of the city.

The authorities have explained that the shortened curfew period will allow for longer public transport hours, which will not only be convenient for Kyiv residents and visitors, but will also alleviate social tension, increase productivity, create more jobs, and enable service companies to extend their working hours.

The KCMA has promised to prioritize the safety of the population and ensure stable life activities in Kyiv while also assisting in the performance of combat or service tasks of the Armed Forces and law enforcement officers, as well as defensive measures.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko added that the metro and ground public transport in the capital will change their working hours from March 26 in accordance with the curfew.

"Stores, shopping centers and restaurants will also extend their work and take into account the time, so that their employees can get home before the curfew begins," the mayor noted.
