Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will receive America’s 2022 Liberty Medal at a ceremony in October for “his heroic defence of liberty in the face of Russian tyranny,” according to the National Constitution Center.
In a statement, president and CEO Jeffrey Rosen said “President Zelensky has bravely led the Ukrainian people in their defence of freedom against Russian tyranny, and his courage has inspired people around the world to defend liberal democracy and the rule of law”

The Liberty Medal is awarded to those who work to ensure the blessings of liberty for people all over the world. It was established in 1988 to commemorate the bicentennial of the US Constitution.
Supreme Court justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Anthony Kennedy, as well as the late Senator John McCain and Malala Yousafzai, have all received the award in recent years.
Zelenskyy has been honoured internationally since February, including with the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award and the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award. He has also been given awards from the governments of Slovakia, Poland, Latvia, and the Czech Republic for his courage and bravery amidst the crisis in his wartorn country.
