Russian Federation forces relentlessly pounded communities throughout Ukraine’s east, southeast and south border regions on Aug. 5, with missiles, artillery and cluster munitions, killing eight civilians and wounding 13.

Several settlements in the Donetsk region 700 kilometers southeast of Kyiv,  suffered a barrage of strikes on Aug. 5, killing eight civilians and wounding nine. In particular, the cities of Avdiivka, Maryinka, Toretsk, and Bakhmut took hits to fourteen private residential buildings, 11 high-rise buildings, two bus stops, a church, garages, a campsite, a shop, and a hotel.

According to General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian military also shelled Nikopol, in the Dnipro region twice. Forty rockets flew into the city of 107,000 people 540 kilometers southeast of Kyiv, damaging up to ten private houses and farm buildings. A fire broke out at a local enterprise, while a bus and several cars were destroyed.

Mass shelling continued in three districts in the Kharkiv region 450 kilometers east of Kyiv. Residential buildings, shops, a market, premises of an educational institution, and playgrounds were attacked. Three people were wounded. The enemy also shelled the nearby city of Chuguiv where three rockets hit the property of a private home.

Russians shelled the ship district of Mykolaiv, a port 490 kilometers south of Kyiv, near the Black Sea. The head of the Mykolayiv military administration, Vitaly Kim, reported that a private house was hit, and surrounding buildings were damaged.

The situation in Kherson Region, Beryslavskyi, and Kakhovskyi districts remains critical. Shelling and explosions were heard in all communities, particularly in the suburbs of Kherson.
