According to The New York Times portal, on July 28, the US Senate unanimously approved a resolution calling on Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.

The adoption of this resolution by the Senate further increases the pressure from Congress on the Biden administration to add Russia to the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

“The armed forces of the Russian Federation committed numerous mass executions of innocent civilians and tried to cover up their crimes with mass burials throughout Ukraine,” the Senate resolution reads.

Military operations in Chechnya, Georgia, and Syria are also on the list of Russian activity that has led to the deaths of countless innocent people.

A similar document has been introduced in the US House of Representatives, where Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be an active supporter of its passage. It was she who appealed to the Secretary of State to declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism.

Today, Russia may become the fifth country to receive such a title, the others being Cuba, North Korea, Iran, and Syria.

The consequences for countries on this list are enormous. Further mechanisms and financial restrictions would be triggered, and Russia could lose its influence in the Asian (China, India), African, and South American markets.

Russia also faces a complete ban on the supply of weapons, controls on the export of dual-purpose goods, a ban on economic aid, etc.

Austin said he had "not seen significant reporting" of North Korean troops being "actively engaged in combat" to date.

Moreover, for companies operating in these countries tax benefits are waived, while sanctions are also introduced against those countries that help the country sponsoring terrorism. For example, assets can be frozen, and businesses will face pressure from negative media coverage.

On the same day, in his evening video address, Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the American senators.

“I want to thank the American senators who unanimously approved the resolution calling on the US State Department to recognize Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. You can take any day in Ukraine – today or any day after February 24 – to see that no one in the world is more invested in terrorism than Russia. This really needs a legal response on a global level. And there is no rational reason why there should not be such a reaction, in particular in the USA,” he said.

In response, the Russian army has further increased its aerial terror of peaceful Ukrainian cities.
