Russian President Vladimir Putin has rebuked the United States for its policy in the Middle East, blaming Washington for the recent escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

During a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani on Tuesday, Oct. 10, Putin stated that the US “had not adequately focused on achieving compromises for both sides of the conflict.”

“I think many will agree with me that this is a vivid example of the failure of the policy of the United States in the Middle East, which tried to monopolize the conflict settlement,” Putin said.

“But, unfortunately, they were not concerned about finding compromises for both sides, but on the contrary promoted their own ideas about how this should be done, exerted pressure on both sides,” he added.

According to Putin, the US had disregarded the “fundamental interests of the Palestinian people,” primarily their desire for an independent, sovereign Palestinian state.

“I mean first of all the need to implement the decisions of the UN Security Council on the creation of an independent sovereign Palestinian state,” he said.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, Hamas militants attacked Israel, firing around 3,000 rockets and breaking into the border areas. In response, the Israel Defense Forces initiated Operation Iron Swords, launching retaliatory actions against the Gaza Strip.

North Korea Tests Super-Size Warhead Missile, Could Attract Kremlin’s Interest

Experts suggest that if it is confirmed that the missile and its 4.5-ton warhead perform as advertised, it could soon attract interest from Russia.

On Oct. 8, the Israeli government declared a state of war for the first time since 1973. Consequently, on Oct. 9, the Israel Defense Forces announced successfully regaining control over all municipalities bordering the Gaza Strip.

As of Oct. 10, Israeli authorities reported 900 fatalities and 2,400 injuries as a result of the Hamas attack, while the Palestinian side reported 700 casualties and 3,800 injuries due to Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip.
