A Ukrainian investigative journalist who reported on corruption in the defense department said that unidentified men tried to force their way into his apartment on Sunday.
The journalist, Yuri Nikolov, co-founder of the Nashi Groshi online news platform, which is known for investigating government corruption, said two men were banging on his door and shouting threats at his door. The men left behind papers with words like “traitor,” “draft dodger,” and “provocateur” written on them.

Nikolov has been involved in breaking news stories about government corruption – including one about the Defense Department buying over-priced military jackets and another about it buying eggs and other food supplies at inflated prices.
Nikolov said that he wasn’t home at the time, as he’d been at a friend’s watching a game of snookers (a sport similar to billiards) when the men came to his door.
“These freaks only scared my old mother, who, after her cancer, lives with me."
According to Nikolov, a video was posted on a Telegram channel of the two men’s visit, with the caption that they were soldiers home on rotation and that they’d decided to give Nikolov a “summons.”
As evidenced by the video and Nikolov’s Facebook post, the men left behind no summons – but pieces of paper with expletives and accusations of him being a traitor.

Prior to the two men’s visit, the journalist said that the only pressure he’d received from something he’d written came from former Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov who’d asked Ukraine’s security service, the SBU, to investigate him.
