When questioned, both Ukrainians and Americans largely shared similar sentiments. They said that the leader of the Catholic Church should refrain from openly supporting aggression, labeling his statements absolutely inappropriate. As a public figure, he should exercise caution before articulating his position on the war in Ukraine. Furthermore, by commending Russia's imperialistic past, he inadvertently lends support to its invasion of Ukraine.
